Vivek Oberoi shares his views on Sonam Wangchuk's ongoing protest

Actor Vivek Oberoi has reacted to the ongoing hunger strike by educationist and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk but chose not to take a political stand on the issue. During a recent media interaction, Vivek was asked about Wangchuk’s protest. While he refrained from commenting on the political aspects of the matter, the actor stressed that he believes everyone has the right to express their opinions in a democracy.

Responding to the question, Vivek said, “I am an actor, not a politician. So I don’t pay attention to political matters. I simply observe and learn. Life gives us so much to see and learn from. What I observed here is that this was something new, and I believe that in a healthy democracy, every voice has its place. If people have expressed their views, then it is a sign of a healthy democracy.”

The actor explained that he has consciously stayed away from political discussions throughout his career. According to Vivek, he prefers to observe different situations and learn from them instead of getting involved in political debates. At the same time, he emphasized that freedom of expression is an essential part of democracy and that every citizen has the right to peacefully voice their opinions and concerns.

Sonam Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, demanding action over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the NEET examination. Through his protest, the renowned educationist and environmental activist has been calling for greater accountability and transparency in the country’s education system. His hunger strike has now entered its 20th day, attracting attention from students, activists, public figures and political leaders across the country.

Meanwhile, concerns over Wangchuk’s health have continued to grow. According to the latest medical updates shared by doctors monitoring him, he has become physically weak after remaining on an indefinite fast for nearly three weeks. His weight has reportedly dropped significantly, and doctors have cautioned that his health may deteriorate further if the hunger strike continues. Despite repeated appeals from supporters and well-wishers to end the fast, Wangchuk has maintained that he will continue his protest until there is a meaningful response to the issues he has raised.

Although Vivek Oberoi chose not to express an opinion on the demands of the protest, his remarks highlighted the importance of democratic values and peaceful dialogue. He reiterated that every individual should have the freedom to express their views, even if he personally prefers to remain outside political discussions. His balanced response has since sparked conversations on social media, with many appreciating his decision to respect democratic principles while maintaining his stance of staying away from politics.

Vivek’s comments reflect his belief that public personalities do not necessarily have to take political positions on every issue. Instead, he believes in observing, learning and respecting the rights of others to make their voices heard. His response has added another perspective to the ongoing discussion surrounding Sonam Wangchuk’s protest, while also reinforcing the importance of freedom of expression in a democratic society.
