Paresh Rawal opens up about the origins of OMG 2

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has made a surprising revelation about the making of OMG 2, claiming that the idea for the film originally came from him but that he never received credit for developing the concept. Speaking in a recent interview with Vickey Lalwani, the actor shared how the project took shape over the years and how it eventually changed before reaching audiences. According to Paresh, he had worked closely with director Amit Rai on the initial concept and believed the film could have taken a very different route from what was finally released.

Paresh Rawal revealed that after discussing the concept with Amit Rai, they began approaching several actors and filmmakers to bring the story to life. He said they narrated the idea to Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn, hoping one of them would come on board, but both actors declined the project. The actor also mentioned that filmmaker Karan Johar was aware of the concept during its early stages, indicating that the idea had been discussed with several prominent names in the industry before it eventually moved forward.

The actor further explained that he did not initially want Akshay Kumar to be associated with the project because he felt it would immediately be seen as a sequel to OMG – Oh My God!. According to Paresh, his intention was to create a fresh standalone film with a new identity instead of continuing the earlier franchise. However, producer Ashwin Varde later took the script to Akshay Kumar, who reportedly liked the concept and agreed to be a part of the film.

Paresh recalled that Akshay Kumar personally convinced him to play the role of the father in the film. He also shared that after Akshay joined the project, a divine character was introduced into the screenplay, something that was not part of the original script developed by him and Amit Rai. The addition significantly changed the direction of the film, making it more closely connected to the first OMG film.

As the script continued to evolve, Paresh Rawal eventually decided to step away from the project. While he did not feature in the final version of OMG 2, he believes that the foundation of the story originated from the discussions and work he had done with director Amit Rai. The actor expressed disappointment that despite his contribution to shaping the original concept, he was not acknowledged for it.

OMG 2, starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, went on to receive appreciation from audiences and critics for its socially relevant theme and performances. However, Paresh Rawal’s latest comments have now offered fans a fresh perspective on the film’s journey from an initial idea to the final product that reached theatres.

His revelation has sparked discussions among cinema lovers, with many expressing curiosity about how the original version envisioned by Paresh Rawal and Amit Rai might have differed from the film that was eventually released. While the actor has now shared his side of the story, his remarks have once again brought attention to the creative process behind filmmaking and how projects can change significantly before making it to the big screen.
