Acclaimed Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee has finally broken his silence on the intense public outrage surrounding the title of his upcoming Netflix thriller, which was previously named Ghooskhor Pandat. The film initially generated heavy backlash right after its announcement on the streaming platform’s yearly content lineup slate, as multiple social media users, organizations, and legal notices claimed the title was offensive and defamed a specific community. Reflecting on the heavy online scrutiny, Manoj expressed his deep frustration over how modern audiences are constantly sitting on the edge of their seats, seemingly desperate to take offense at creative work before even fully understanding the actual context or plot of a film. The veteran star shared that creative professionals put their blood, sweat, and tears into making a movie, and unnecessary negative attention only puts the hard work, careers, and livelihoods of the entire crew at risk.

The core of the massive internet debate centered around the pairing of a word linked to bribery with a historically respected community identity, prompting a legal notice and a subsequent petition demanding an immediate name change. Manoj strongly defended the creative team by explaining that the name was never intended to target or insult any religious group, as the main character is a corrupt Delhi Police officer named Ajay Dikshit whose colleagues merely gave him the nickname Pandat within the department. He further clarified that actors are rarely involved in the corporate process of naming a project, but when the team realized the intense sensitivity and hurt feelings of a section of society, they willingly offered an official apology and agreed to drop the title during a single smooth court hearing. The actor emphasized that as creative individuals, they have zero intention to argue or waste their energy on impatient critics who refuse to properly educate themselves about the subject matter before typing abusive remarks online.

The most disturbing aspect of the entire controversy for the National Award-winning actor was the alarming escalation of personal attacks, online trolling, and graphic death threats directed at his immediate family members. Manoj opened up about his deep disappointment upon witnessing toxic internet users dragging his wife and his fifteen-year-old teenage daughter into the heated picture, using highly obscene and demeaning language against women who had absolutely no connection to the film’s production. He stated that while he remains entirely open to constructive, gentle, and respectful criticism about his performances, he refuses to jump into the mud with anonymous bots and trolls who actively spread real-world hatred. The gritty crime thriller, which features a talented ensemble cast including Nushrratt Bharuccha, Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, and Divya Dutta under the joint production of Neeraj Pandey, will eventually stream on Netflix under a completely fresh and unannounced title.
