Delhi HC Orders Takedown Of Pornographic, Deepfake, And Unauthorised Content Misusing Naga Chaitanya’s Persona

The Delhi High Court has stepped in to safeguard the personality and publicity rights of prominent Telugu film actor Akkineni Naga Chaitanya, issuing a major interim protection order against the unchecked misuse of his identity on digital platforms. Justice Jyoti Singh passed the order while hearing a commercial suit filed by the actor, who approached the court after discovering widespread, systematic, and unauthorised exploitation of his name, likeness, image, and voice across multiple websites, digital platforms, and online marketplaces. The legal team representing the actor presented troubling evidence showing how his identity was being paired with explicit search terms on pornographic portals to artificially drive traffic, alongside sophisticated artificial intelligence fabrications, including manipulative deepfake videos, altered audio clips, and face-morphing creations. Recognizing the severe threat to the actor’s professional standing and private life, the court established a strict twenty-four-hour deadline for multiple defendants and internet intermediaries to completely remove all identified objectionable links and infringing materials from their networks.

During the extensive court proceedings, the actor’s legal counsel strongly argued that the offensive digital content went far beyond regular public analysis or fair media criticism, categorizing the persistent online attacks as malicious trolling and targeted character defamation. Beyond the disturbing explicit videos and AI-generated fabrications, the suit highlighted how several platforms were using the actor’s name to spread false narratives regarding his past relationship and personal life, specifically propagating unverified claims of infidelity regarding his former marriage to actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Additionally, the court was shown multiple e-commerce listings selling illegal, unauthorised clothing items and merchandise branded with the actor’s face and likeness without his explicit consent or financial affiliation. The legal representatives emphasized that such actions not only violate basic consumer trust by falsely implying an official brand endorsement, but the poor quality of these products also directly threatens to dismantle the commercial goodwill and clean public image that the actor has spent over fifteen years building in both the Telugu and Hindi film industries.

Acknowledging the merit of the complaint, the Delhi High Court ruled that Naga Chaitanya had established a solid primary case for immediate emergency relief, stating that allowing these digital violations to persist would cause permanent and irreversible damage to his dignity, privacy, and professional reputation. Justice Jyoti Singh noted that while celebrated public figures are naturally exposed to a much higher level of societal observation and vulnerability than ordinary citizens, this exposure absolutely has its legal limitations and cannot be weaponized to strip an individual of their fundamental human rights. Through this protective injunction, the court has explicitly banned several rogue websites, content creators, and unidentified digital operators from using any element of the actor’s persona for commercial or personal financial gain without formal authorization. The comprehensive ruling covers advanced technological misuses, including machine learning models, AI chatbots, and digital voice-cloning tools, while also directing major global platforms like Google LLC to swiftly track down and delete an extensive list of specific infringing videos, shorts, and unauthorized merchandise listings across their streaming networks.
