The highly anticipated romantic comedy Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has reached its sixth day at the box office, but the theatrical business shows a clear struggle to gain momentum during the weekdays. Directed by the veteran filmmaker David Dhawan, the multi-starrer film featuring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde has underperformed during its crucial midweek test. According to early trade reports, the movie witnessed zero growth on Wednesday, dragging down its performance after a relatively decent opening weekend. With a steady drop in ticket sales over the last few days, the film’s total domestic net collection now stands at approximately ₹34 crore, indicating a tough road ahead for this commercial family entertainer.

The box office trajectory of the film reveals that it started on a hopeful note, earning ₹7.50 crore on its opening Friday and maintaining the exact same figure on Saturday. Sunday brought a welcome spike as family audiences stepped out, resulting in its highest single-day haul of ₹9 crore. However, the true test for any big-budget Bollywood film lies in its weekday sustainability. The post-weekend drop was quite sharp, with the film pulling in around ₹3.50 crore on Monday and a slight variation on Tuesday due to discounted theater rates, before sliding further to an estimated ₹2.85 crore on its sixth day. This lack of growth on Wednesday has brought its total six-day Indian net earnings to the current ₹34 crore mark, falling short of initial industry expectations.

Several factors have influenced this lukewarm theatrical run, including a dense screen-sharing battle and heavy competition from other major releases. Cinema halls are currently dominated by multiple films running simultaneously, including the massive action-drama Peddi featuring Ram Charan, which has captured a large portion of the regional and national audience. Additionally, the film faces competition from Anurag Kashyap’s gritty drama Bandar and the Hollywood fantasy venture He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. This division of screens has significantly trimmed down the number of shows for Varun Dhawan’s comedy, which dropped from over 9,000 screenings on its opening weekend to around 5,600 shows nationwide by Wednesday.

Despite the slow domestic crawl, the global numbers have managed to cross a minor milestone, pushing the worldwide gross collection past the ₹50 crore mark when factoring in international market tracking. Produced by Ramesh Taurani under the Tips Films banner, the movie is particularly significant as it has been publicized as the final directorial project of hitmaker David Dhawan before his retirement. The comedy ensemble, which also features Maniesh Paul, Chunky Panday, Jimmy Sheirgill, and Mouni Roy, is now pinning its final hopes on the upcoming second weekend. Trade analysts suggest that the film will need an extraordinary jump over Friday and Saturday to sustain its theatrical presence, especially as it looks to wrap up its lifetime domestic run around the ₹50 to ₹60 crore threshold.
